SHIRAZ PLANTED 1907 - MATARO PLANTED 1897
Soak in the authentic flavours of the Barassa Valley with our 2014 Barossa Valley Old Vine Shiraz Mataro.
Our 120 year old Mataro vines have birthed brooding, dark grapes which have become one of the cornerstones of quality wines from Lou Miranda Estate, supplying cherries and gingerbread spice to this deviant drop. Coupled with the fruits from our slightly younger Shiraz vines (planted in 1907), this is a distinct and highly aromatic blend which you are unlikely to forget.
Experience the bouquet of lush bramble fruit aromatics balancing with savoury & spiced fruitcake characteristics, and a hint of cedar and cigar box notes. All this complexity is derived from a 81% Old Vine Shiraz and 19% Old Vine Mataro fusion which has been aged for 24 months.
We carefully mature this blend in 35% new American oak and 5% new French oak barrels to create intricacy, synergy and lasting intrigue. Consequently, the palate displays weight with length and structure, and the rich fruit characters are complemented by oak spice, savoury elements and velvet tannins.
Lingering plum and toasty flavours on the finish ensure this deep crimson wine holds amazing length and persistence.
Only 3,533 bottles were handcrafted in this limited release that sings brilliantly when served with succulent roast duck matched with a side of tart and spicy plum sauce.

Wine Reviewer, Patrick Eckel - 96 points - The Shiraz was sourced from vines planted in 1907 and the Mataro in 1897, drinking this wine is drinking vinous history from one of Australia’s most celebrated regions.
An inky dark red, the nose is dense and concentrated with plum and black cherry that's softened by seductive oak and a touch of briar and earth.
The palate shows a wine of such concentration, but also one that maintains both contrast and elegance. It's awash with blue and black fruits with interwoven oak spice and a seemingly infinite yet meticulously maintained web of tannin. There is a leathery note that starts to develop on the mid to back palate that adds yet another layer of complexity before melding with spice laden plum to finish. The length is significant.
Wine Orbit, Sam Kim - 95 points - Made from over 100-year-old vines, the wine is irresistibly fragrant on the nose showing dark fruit, cedar, dark chocolate, clove and floral characters with a hint of smoked game note. It is sumptuous and velvety on the palate, filled with delectable fruit flavours and stylish oak infusion, wonderfully complemented by polished tannins. The wine is harmonious and seamless with a terrific long finish. At its best: now to 2029.
